Since 2015, Cocoa Packs has grown from assisting 92 children facing food insecurity in Derry Township to helping over 1,300 children, across 18 school districts and several counties.
Children who are active in the food assistance program are also eligible to participate in our extension services, which contribute to enhancing their overall emotional and physical wellness.
This growth has expanded the operations of Cocoa Packs to multiple locations, including a weekly drive-thru off-site distribution in the parking lot of Spring Creek of the Brethren Church, a full-service Clothing Closet and warehouse, as well as a robust food rescue program.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education School Nutrition reports, over 62% of the school-aged children in Dauphin County are eligible for free or reduced lunch, which can indicate a child is experiencing food insecurity. The model of support Cocoa Packs has developed provides the capacity to assist many more children, however the operational and logistical challenges that are presented by operating out of multiple spaces is not sustainably efficient.
Our vision is to ensure all children we assist have what they need to succeed in a safe place, by providing all services under one roof, and maximize the impact made by the thousands of volunteers and volunteer groups who faithfully serve our organization.
Cocoa Packs Capital Campaign will generate funds necessary to build a future for Cocoa Packs where we will continue intentionally leading with love and care to make a difference in the life of children, for years to come.
