What is Cocoa Packs Food Rescue?
Also called food recovery, food rescue is the practice of collecting fresh, edible food that would have otherwise gone to waste from restaurants, grocers, and other food establishments in our area to distribute to the children enrolled to receive Cocoa Packs.
Food rescue is extremely effective because it simultaneously helps get food to those who need it most, reduces food waste, and serves as an opportunity for local food service providers in our area to partner with Cocoa Packs.
Through a partnership with Food Rescue US, Cocoa Packs is helping to lead the way in Central PA by delivering a streamlined simple solution for connecting healthy, usable surplus food from our restaurant partners to help meet critical hunger demand through the use of Food Rescue’s simple and efficient proprietary technology.
How does it work?
It’s simple! Through the use of Food Rescue’s technology, Cocoa Packs Food Rescuers sign up and match with food donation opportunities. Once a match is made, the Food Rescuer self-schedules to pick up the food from the donor and delivers it to us.
On average, a food rescue takes approximately 30 minutes. We work closely with our partners at the rescue sites to ensure convenience for the rescues!
You don’t need to be ‘tech-savvy’ to use the technology! It’s designed to be user-friendly and has a comprehensive tutorial. Anyone can be a Cocoa Packs Food Rescuer! All you need is a valid drivers license, transportation, and the desire to help connect usable excess food to the children we assist!
Ready to become a Cocoa Packs Food Rescuer?
With just a few simple steps, you can become a Cocoa Packs Food Rescuer!
- Click here to visit Food Rescue US and select Sign Up to create an account
- Once you have created an account using your email addressing and creating a password, select 'Become a Rescuer'
- Enter your name and zip code, enter your mobile number (we suggest completing verification at this step), and agree to the terms of service. Once you are at the final screen, you will see 'Cocoa Packs' as the site location. After completing registration, look for an email to verify and activate your account from Food Rescue US.
- Once you’re registered, we will send you a welcome email with more information about volunteering with Cocoa Packs Food Rescue. If you ever have any questions, please email us directly at cocoapacksfooddonations@gmail.com.
